Not a round. Nine holes on your own, at the pace you walk, with two balls and a couple of tees in your pocket and a towel on your belt.

    Into the wind on a long par 5 you will want your driver. Plenty of owners keep one in a small bag alongside the Q, and that is the club working the way it works best.

  • It isn't a tournament club.

    Q is non-conforming. It is designed for a golfer rather than a rulebook, and the golf it is built for is the casual, recreational golf most of us actually play.

  • It asks more of you.

    Eight settings in one head means learning what each one does for your swing, and that takes a few rounds. The owners who enjoy that part are the owners who keep it.

  • It isn't for everyone.

How it actually works

Push the head down, twist, let it click. Eight settings, from a 4 degree putter to a 60 degree lob wedge, and the click tells you it has seated.

The head and the shaft meet at a reverse-threaded titanium connection, which means the harder you swing it, the tighter it locks. The shaft comes apart into two pieces with a screw, and that is the whole reason it fits a suitcase.

The team includes people who have designed clubs for TaylorMade, Titleist and Nike. The adjustable club is an old idea, the first one was made in 1893. The execution is the new part.
